Project #2: Complete

Our goal was to raise $10,000 to help provide better education for the children of Dum, Ethiopia.

We donate 20% of our profits to our current project with imagine1day to help contribute to the building of a school along with providing educational materials and leadership training to ensure long-term and sustainable educational opportunities in the area. 100% of the money we donate will go directly into the field to fund the project, which is one of the reasons we love imagine1day.

Traveller Collective Project #2

Location: Dum, Ethiopia

The community of 2,180 is located in Tigray’s Endamekhoni District, in the north of Ethiopia. The community has 683 children who should be in early childhood or primary school. Only 557 are enrolled. For those students that do attend, their school is in terrible condition. There is a shortage of classrooms and those classrooms that do exist are at risk of collapsing. It is a dusty and challenging learning environment. Only 39 per cent of students currently have desks. There is no early childhood education, library, playground, water, and no gender segregated latrine. The poor learning environment has a huge impact on education. Students enrolled only attend 83 percent of the time.

Along with the community of Dum and imagine1day, we will build:

  • One four block classroom
  • Latrine
  • Library
  • School supplies - furniture, books and science kits
  • Playground
  • Early Childhood Education classroom.
