Now, I can’t speak for everyone who's a part of Traveller Collective, but I live in a country where I have the ability to make my travel dreams come true. Sure, I have to watch my spending and make some sacrifices but, at the end of the day, if I want it enough, I have the ability to save enough money for travel.
But it’s just not the same for lots of people all over the world. They share the same dream of travelling but, due to a number of circumstances, will likely never get the opportunity. The idea of saving enough money to travel seems pretty impossible, not to mention obtaining a passport and navigating all of the steps that leaving your home and going somewhere else entails.
I always find myself coming back to these thoughts, especially when the idea of travel comes up in conversations with locals. It makes me feel pretty damn lucky to have the opportunity to travel the world because I know that isn't the case for everybody.
But why can't more people who want to travel have the opportunity? I, like many of you, know firsthand the amazing, life-changing experiences travel can provide and it would benefit all of us if these experiences were attainable for more people.
So that's how TC's in-house charitable initiative, Gifting Travel, came to be. It's our way of giving back and helping fulfill people's travel dreams!
Admittedly, there are a lot of moving parts in order to make these trips successful: passports, visas, language barriers, flying, culture shock...the list is seemingly endless. Despite it all, though, we couldn't be more excited and committed to helping make people's travel dreams come true.
Our first Gifting Travel trip took place in June 2018 with Fatima and her son Ayat. Read more about why this young Moroccan family was the perfect fit for our inaugural trip.
And, as always, thanks again for the continued support of what we're doing at Traveller Collective!
